Orange Rings | 2016

Veliko Turnovo, (BG) - 14th - 15th May 2016. (Site-specific)

12 Orange Rings placed between the two shores of the Yantra River, under Stambolov’s bridge in Veliko Tarnovo. The orange rings symbolize the life guards and are arranged in four rows. The installation establishes a parallel between the free movement of the water and the global process of the human migration over time. Historically it had always been movement of large masses of people all over the world. Addressing questions such as: what are the actual borders that divide us? What are the causes that provoke this phenomenon and its consequences? How much is human life worth? ...

Located between the both shores of the river Yantra, the installation focuses in a visual way, the issue of refugees and the difficulties that are happening in order to reach the “desired land." The orange color is very striking, associated to extreme situations. The installation takes advantage of the good contrast with the landscape of the River in Veliko Tarnovo. The Orange circles are situated in the midle of the river, without being able to reach any of the two shores. Here comes this parallelism between the free flow of water and the not-so-free movement of persons, although this is “their” fundamental right in all constitutions. About the solidarity of societies, which are willing to accept them or not.

The project was performed out on 14th and 15th of May 2016 on the occasion of the solo exhibition "Selected pixels" of the artist in the city of Veliko Tarnovo.

Statement

In art everything is worth it! But not all valid nor will be worth!

Opening up new horizons for human experience has always been the main source of creative energy, both in science and in art. To inquire into 'something' apparently non-existent or invisible to others and to provide it with real presence has always been the natural mechanism to generate usefulness for "art objects".

The Urinal (“Fountain” 1917), which appeared in the last century, instinctively “wanted to”, “changed to” and “confirmed to” this mechanism. If an artwork was a book, painting or sculpture before, for example, now it is an SMS, or whatnot, why not? that's what our collective memory is in charge of of each and everyone. Sensory or intellectual pleasure remains real.

Light, Movement, Rhythm, Color... How do they change us?
The only permanent thing today is, a paradox indeed, the change. Change has established as a rule in the world of visual communication. This is the art of Present!

This dynamic evolution, which is energized by ourselves and at the same time changes us and determines our perception of the reality around us, an increasingly "increased" reality, is the main concept in my quest.

Movement makes time visible, is the formal change. Distinguishing the terms: "things" of "events", "mobility" of "immobility", "time" of "timelessness", "to be" or "to become", my attention is focused on the dimension of Time. The temporality, the relativity of "Whole” and recurrence of the time in the life cycles, are the target of my experiments and determine the nature of my work.

The art of today is a great laboratory for research, and that is so. And I´m here as well... and I´m turning to you!
